My first major project for my English Composition I is to write a Narrative Project about a time in my life when I or someone close to me made a decision that had a negative or positive impact on my life. I will be providing a introduction into the project as well as providing links that help me with my writing process creating this narrative.
For this Narrative Project, I chose to write about the summer I visit my mom for the first time which was around the same time my grandma passed away. During that summer, I receive a call from my dad about the bad new which I wrote about in my Composing a Past Scene blog, in the blog I focus on how I chose to take the bad new. Before digging into the Narrative Project, the first step was learning about my identity by answering the Proust Questioniare, which I wrote my first blog on. This helped with my writting process because answering the questionaire allow me to reflect on my life by focusing on my growth and past events that has shape me into the person I am at this time. reflecting on my life help me realize that I could write a meaning piece about some of the events that has happen to me.
The second part of my process was actually the hardest part, which was trying to figure how to break old writing habits and creating a new writing routine that would help me transition smoothly into the writer I want to become. It was the hardest part because I'm well known to being a proscated and the more I do it, the more harder it is to break the habit. To help with this process, we was assigned three different texts which included: Teach Writing as a Process Not a Product (Don Murray), The Daily Writing Routines of Great Writers (Maria Popova), and Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life (Anne Lamott) which focus on writing as being more than a process and not just the finish line at the end of your 1 mile. As a writer you have to train and go through the pain and the burn in order to become a better writer.
The third part of my process was learning to Compose a Present Scene, please check out my blog post to read the first scene I compose. Before I was able to write this scene I had to learn about the genre of creative writing by reading What is Creative Nonfiction? (Lee Gutkind). Also, reading two really amazing pieces of texts: Making Scenes in Memoir (Lee Martin) and My Name is Margaret (Maya Angelou) was great examples that help set up how to compose my scene.
The fourth part of my process was learning how to Compose a Present Scene with Dialogue and Symbolism for my week four blog.
